Wright Completes Goonvean Conveyor System.

Wright Engineering has recently completed a project to design, build and install a system of conveyors for Goonvean Ltd of St Austell to deliver china clay to kilns at a plant in Cornwall.

Wright had previously supplied a 110 metre tripping conveyor to Goonvean which also entailed the design, build and installation of the new conveyor as well as the removal of the existing system. Wright had to complete this project within a short shut down period, which was completed satisfactorily and led to the award of the new contract.

The new contract called for the installation of a 28 tonnes/hr raw material system of conveyors, consisting of two 600mm wide, inclined troughed belt conveyors with 27m and 18m drum centres respectively; running at a belt speed of 0.76m/sec. A specially constructed transfer tower complete with an open mesh platform at transfer height and caged access ladder to ground level was built and positioned between the two conveyors.

Material discharged from the the second conveyor feeds via a pneumatically operated swivel shute to either an existing rotary dryer conveyor or to another new conveyor, which is a 600mm wide, horizontal troughed belt conveyor. with 36m drum centres. Wright also had to design and build an extension to the existing tripping conveyors which had to be extended by 7.7 and 8.5metres respectively.

Wright's management team completed the project and supplied a robust, simple system with integral ease of maintenance from drawing board to fully operational status in just 20 weeks.
