Scunthorpe metal recovery plant.

Wright Engineering have recently been involved in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of a 500 tph metal recovery plant at the Corus Scunthorpe site. Working for Corus Northern Engineering Services, Wright Engineering were contracted to provide an overall plant layout design, including design and manufacture of conveyors, chute work, and support steelwork. Total installation of the plant was also undertaken by Wright Engineering which included screens, feeders, a horizontal shaft impactor and associated equipment.

Operating at 500 tph the plant is fed with steel mill slag and debris. The plant separates metal from the slag waste, and splits and sorts the metal and slag waste by size.

Equipped with a heavy duty feed section, the plant takes all the slag waste from the plant, without the need to sort the waste. A Rotating electro drum magnet and an Overband magnet separate the metal from the waste. Three double/triple deck slag and metallic screens systems, and a horizontal shaft impactor, are then utilized to process the metal and waste. The 16 interconnecting belt conveyors complete the plant.

Due to strict environmental conditions, Wright Engineering housed all major equipment within enclosures, fully enclosing all conveyors, chutes and hoppers.

With the plant operating over 18 hours a day, 6 days per week, ease of maintenance was a high priority. Wright Engineering designed maintenance access platforms for all equipment, lifting beams and full length conveyor maintenance access, Wright Engineering are now proving the low maintenance burden of the plant, providing a maintenance crew on an ongoing weekly basis, performing the planned maintenance tasks.
