The Wright Way to Make Operating Easier at Tarmac Tunstead
3rd September 2007

The Wright Way to Make Operating Easier at Tarmac Tunstead Wright Engineering has recently completed a project to design, manufacture and install an operator cabin complete with all necessary access platforms and stairs for the in-pit crusher at Tarmac-Tunstead Quarry.

The brief was to design a suitable replacement for an existing cabin which would allow the operator to work in a quieter and relatively dust free environment, whilst controlling tipping, monitoring conveyors and clearing blockages.
A further element of the project included the provision of a safer access stairway and platform to the cabin from the visitor’s car park adjacent to the crusher house. This was essential to facilitate for the number of guests from local schools and clubs who frequently attend on organized visits.

The design utilizes seven 1350mm x 936mm double glazed window panels, six of which are positioned at the front to provide the maximum amount of light and vision over the crusher bowl, for both the operator and visitor, whatever height they may be.
A split-type Fujitsu air conditioning system and Hepa filtration together with a Gessmann KFS8 crane drivers seat was included to provide greater operator comfort.

The cabin was completed in a high specification marine grade paint finish and comprises a 100mm thick insulated wall, floor and roof with cable entry points, two insulated doors with double glazed vision panels, six “v” type anti-vibration mounts and dimmable fluorescent lighting.

The project was completed utilizing nights and weekend shifts by Wright engineers to minimize disruption to tipping and crushing operations.
All specified deadlines were met and no accidents were incurred during the installation.

Ian Gillatt, Project Engineer, commented,” I was very impressed with the way Wright Engineering installed the cabin. Their approach was very professional, the quality and finish of the cabin was excellent and the project was completed without any problems whatsoever. I would be very happy to have Wright back on site for any future projects.”
