Rotary dryers for Scottish based Glass Recycling facility

Wrights Engineering was set the challenge of designing and manufacturing a piece of equipment capable of drying glass for a Scottish based recycling facility. The design started off its life as a Vibratory Fluid Bed Dryer however this quickly changed to a rotary system due to the high flow rate of the material. The design changes did not stop here; the client increased the necessary temperature, the substance dried from the surface of the glass and many others things that contribute to changes in the planning stages.

Fabrication and Construction of Rotary Dryers

This is not like any project attempted by Wrights in the past, but as a team, complications have been solved and design changes have been made to deliver exactly what the client requires.

Due to other changes in the design of the plant and the process of the glass treatment, the client changed its requirement from Wrights to supply not one but two dryers. One for glass cullet, and a second for fine crushed glass. This second dryer posed more challenges for Wrights due to the characteristics of the fine glass and the abrasiveness. At this point it was also suggested that the rotary dryers increased their internal temperatures to dry the glass as rapidly as possible, again causing complications with the size of the heating element and the structural integrity of the dryer.

Fabrication and Construction of Rotary Dryers

Wrights has overcome any and all challenges that have come their way to satisfy the needs of the clients.
The changes to the dryers have not only been a challenge to the design team, but also the fabricators and fitters working on the dryers and the electrical engineers.

They have worked on accommodating the changes and implementing them to the dryer mid construction. Despite the alterations, the dryer is working as intended and on schedule. These first prototype dryers can now be used to perfect the design and fabrication details to make any future dryers more cost efficient and improve the drying efficiency of the desired products.
